L'Ariosto Situated on Glasgow’s Mitchell Street, L’Ariosto has been a favourite with locals since it was first established almost 40 years ago. This Italian restaurant aims to serve fine food in splendid surroundings, and it does just that. The interior of L’Ariosto resembles a beautiful courtyard in an authentic Italian village, and the friendly and welcoming staff make you feel at home immediately. The Chef handpicks ingredients daily, from fresh fish from the local market, to the best cuts of Scottish meat. L’Ariosto is also the only restaurant in Glasgow to offer live music until late most evenings, with the option of hitting the dance floor after dinner… Cuisine: Italian Location: 92 Mitchell Street, Glasgow, G1 3NQ [Map] |

La Bonne Auberge A restaurant that's still winning awards after 30 years must be doing something right. Part of (but not owned by) the Holiday Inn in Glasgow's Theatreland, La Bonne Auberge epitomises the smart French Mediterranean brasserie with its brick work, wrought iron, black boards and waiters in French black waistcoats and white aprons. The food is both good quality and affordable; a lot of Scotch beef and rib-eye steak is sold. The AA liked it so much that they've awarded executive chef Gerry Sharkey a rosette. Families, tourists, hotel guests and business people are among the usual, buzzy crowd. La Bonne Auberge opens daily from 7am for breakfast, lunch and dinner. La Bonne Auberge Back in 1975 renowned restaurateur and hotelier Maurice Taylor launched the French Mediterranean Brasserie, La Bonne Auberge, to the Glasgow restaurant scene. Over thirty years later it continues to thrive and from its location in the heart of Glasgow’s fashionable Theatreland district uses the finest ingredients to offer tantalising, pre-theatre, à la carte and private dining with a hint of French flair in relaxed, casual surrounds. Now La Bonne Auberge brings fine dining to East Kilbride. Sample traditional coq au vin with shallots, bacon and mushrooms with buttery mash and beans or one of their well-hung and well-cooked steaks. Puds are deliciously French and are not to be missed. La Lanterna La Lanterna, an Italian restaurant on Hope Street, has been a Glaswegian dining institution for nearly forty years. Run by the Martinolli family, the cavernous basement restaurant is simply decorated with a rustic jumble of tables and beamed ceilings, and the warm and cosy venue is a popular place for pre-theatre meals, parties and celebrations. The down-to-earth service and authentic menu at La Lanterna are enough to turn you off high-street pizzerias for life, and we love homemade dishes such as the beef carpaccio drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil garnished with Parmesan shavings; the Rigatoni Amatriciana in a tomato and onion sauce with smoked bacon and chilli; and the veal escalope pan-fried in breadcrumbs with a fried egg, capers and anchovies.
